Elders
Elders are responsible for assisting the Pastor in teaching, praying for the church body and shepherding the flock in spiritual matters. In addition, Elders assist the Pastor in the administration of communion and baptism, visit the sick and distressed members of the church as well as interview applicants for church membership and welcome new members into the congregation.
Qualifications for Elder are outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
Matt Funk - Pastor/Elder
Pastor Matt came to Twain Harte Bible Church, first as our Youth Pastor, but after serving in that capacity for 3 years, was then called as our Senior Pastor in 2005 where he has served as a passionate and gifted preacher/teacher of God's Word, binging to life the scriptures through his sermons and studies. He and his wife, Kathy are both originally from Canada, as you'll recognize from their slight accent. Married in 1996, they have four children. Pastor Matt, or PM as he is often referred, thrives on seeing people studying and applying God's Word to their lives. In an age where many preachers have watered down the Scriptures, PM unashamedly speaks the truth with abandon, considering it a privilege to serve the body at Twain Harte Bible Church.
Kevin Koskela - Chairman
Kevin is currently the chairman of our Elder Board. His passion is to encourage spiritual and relational growth among the body of Christ at Twain Harte Bible Church through one on one mentoring as well as small group leadership. He and his wife Sharon were married in 1982 and have two sons, Matthew and Andrew. Matthew is CTO for Giant Media, an internet marketing startup in Santa Monica. Andrew is a senior nursing student at Azusa Pacific University. Also, both boths are engaged to be married this year! Kevin works out of his home office as the VP of Applications and Services for Thoroughbred Software, a New Jersey based developer of small to medium sized business application software. In his spare time Kevin enjoys cooking, photography, hiking, fly fishing and spending time outdoors.
Steve Thomazin - Vice Chairman
Steve Thomazin and his wife, Kelly, have been married for 22 years. They and their three boys moved to Sonora over thirteen years ago and have been at THEFC for 7 years. Steve and Kelly grew up in and were married in the same church were they met in Yucaipa, California. Steve is a Civil Engineer with Hetch Hetchy Water and Power. In his spare time Steve loves to spend time with his wife and boys doing the things they all love; soccer, camping, fishing, traveling and music. With Joel in college at CSU Stanislaus, and Jeremy and Miles at Sonora High they don't get to travel as much as they want, but we cherish the time God has given us together and with our church family at THEFC.
Michael Torok - Secretary
Michael was born in Sonora, and accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of five. He was raised in various parts of Tuolumne County and graduated from Summerville High School in 1983. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Aquatic Biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1988. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Marine Science from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories in 1994. He is currently employed as the Dean for Instructional Services in the Arts & Sciences Division at Columbia College. Michael and his wife Stephanie have two wonderful children, Joshua (18) and Rayanna (13). As he has grown in Christ, he has been active in a variety of church activities over the years. The primary focus of these activities has been Christian education for both adults and youth. Michael is currently serving as one of the Elders for Twain Harte Bible Church. Personal interests include spending time with his family, hunting, and fishing.
