The Missions Committee is responsible for overseeing the missions activity within the Church body. This includes encouraging our youth and adults to engage in missions activities, recommending a missions budget to the congregation each year, recommending changes in missionary support and arranging hosting for visiting missionaries. We meet regularly to learn more about missions, receive updates about our church-support missionaries, and pray for our missionaries in the field.
In 2008, the Missions Committee continued to strengthen the relationships we have with our church supported missionaries. We currently have 13 individuals or organizations on our “roster” – a number that we believe will be stable over the next several years. Each member of the board has taken “ownership” of 2-4 missionaries and takes personal responsibility for praying for those missionaries, corresponding regularly with them, and reporting to the board any special needs or requests.
THEFC is missions-minded, earmarking over 15% of our general fund budget for missionary support and short-term trips. We strongly encourage our members to take short-term missions trips, both within the US and abroad. In 2008, we sent 7 individuals on a variety of trips. Our church also sent a team of 28 people on a trip to Juarez, Mexico in partnership with Missions Ministries. Led by Kevin & Sharon Koskela, our team built a house for a family living in poverty. We also held a food outreach and VBS program, led by then high-school senior Andrew Koskela as part of his high school senior project (for more information click here). We also send a monthly team to serve at the Modesto Gospel Mission.
Currently serving on the Missions Board are: Pastor Matt, Tom Bashor, Jeff Broaddus, Sharon Koskela, Ron Troxell, Bob Sandberg & Zim Zimmerman.
